A nationwide exhibit that features artists’ inspirations in the history is part of the Association’s centennial celebration.
On Florida’s Historic Coast, one of the country’s oldest art associations is celebrating its centennial with a unique exhibit that challenges artists to picture their community in a new light.
History Through the Lens of the Artist, hosted by the St. Augustine Art Association, challenged artists to tell a story of the development and evolution of the culture and people of a community from its inception until today. Submitted art was entered into two categories: photography or other mediums, including drawing and painting, printmaking, mixed media and collage, fiber, sculpture, and pottery and ceramics. Subject matters range from architecture and landscape to people, events, landmarks, social issues, and more.
Awards for submissions will be announced at the opening reception on July 18, 2024. The show will continue in-gallery and online through August 25.
St. Augustine Art Association was founded in 1924 and comprised members inspired by St. Augustine’s blend of European style and natural Florida beauty. The Association attracted artists to St. Augustine by promoting it as “just like painting in Europe,” creating a vibrant colony of creatives.
