Juneau Named World’s #18 Best Place to Travel in 2025 by Travel Lemming

It’s the time of year that lists begin to emerge that summarize this year, but Travel Lemming is looking ahead and so is Travel Juneau! Travel Lemming, a US-based online travel publication with more than 10 million yearly readers, today announced its list of the 50 best destinations in the world for 2025, naming Juneau the #18 best place to travel globally.

We are so pleased to have been selected as one of Travel Lemming’s top 20 travel destinations for 2025 and hope if you haven’t been here, you’ll consider coming to see us. Juneau has unlimited opportunities for adventure, education, hiking, and fun. From whale watching to flightseeing and glacier trekking to dog sledding, Juneau mixes unique outdoor recreation opportunities with Alaska Native art and culture as well as Gold Rush history.

With just a two-hour direct flight from Seattle, you can enjoy Juneau hospitality and scenery no matter the time of year. In fact, we have a very full and vibrant winter/spring culture. The Juneau Symphony does some amazing seasonal concerts. We have 3 professional theaters, a dance company, jazz ensembles, and a week-long Alaska Folk Festival in April!

If you prefer, fly in to Alaska’s capital for a weekend to attend “Gallery Walk” December 6 – a festive evening celebrating arts in Juneau. The amount of talent in Juneau seems to be never-ending.  Skier or snowboarder? Fly or ferry to Juneau and bring your boarding pass to the ski area for a free day-of-arrival skiing. Try snowshoeing or Nordic skiing on set tracks; for something completely unique, our governor hosts an open house annually (this year December 10) at his Juneau to greet residents and their guests for holiday cookies, hot cider, and features Victorian carolers.   Consider visiting in the “off” season because Juneau is “on” all year!

Matthew Reppond, Senior Travel Writer at Travel Lemming, commented, “The capital city…comes in first for epic landscapes and Alaskan charm. Let rivers of ice, thundering waterfalls, and emerald forests take your breath away.”

He continued, “Pan for gold or dip some fresh crab legs into golden butter at a local restaurant. If you’re looking for Alaska at its best, you’re bound to strike it rich here!”

Travel Lemming’s annual list of 50 best places to travel is a collaboration by the publication’s team of dozens of writers and editors. Travel Lemming’s local travel experts each nominate their favorite destinations which are then reviewed and voted on by the publication’s editorial board.
