Earth Day

National Park Week will be celebrated April 20-28 this year. Check out our Earth Day blog for all the need-to-know info!

Spring into baseball season

Spring is a time for budding flowers and more sunshine, but for a lot of individuals – especially those in the Chicago Southland, it’s time for something else…America’s Pastime.

Baseball returns in the spring to green diamonds on community little league fields to Major League stadiums. If you’re visiting the Chicago Southland, you can take in a game of World Championship teams in top notch venues and see some huge young talent with bright futures ahead. Check out our baseball blog for info on where you can catch some of these great teams and games.

Solar-bration in the Chicago Southland

The upcoming solar eclipse is taking place on April 8th, and the Chicago Southland expects to get a pretty good view, with over 60% of the sun being covered by the moon. The event will last for approximately 8 minutes and 2 seconds and won’t return until 2044. Don’t miss your chance to get a great view at Solar-bration: Solar Eclipse Viewing Party at the Plum Creek Nature Center in Goodenow Grove, Beecher. The first 50 attendees will receive free viewing glasses, and all attendees can roast marshmallows around a campfire.

SeatGeek Stadium sports

SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview continues to host action packed rugby and soccer games this spring. Check out the Chicago Hounds Rugby on April 14th and April 21st. You can also kick back and watch some soccer with either the Chicago Red Stars or the Chicago Fire FC II. Check out SeatGeek Stadium’s entire schedule for tickets to these sports matches and more!

Gone fishing

April rain can increase fish activity by cooling water temperatures and attracting prey, making it a prime time for anglers to reel in their catch. Check out our Gone Fishing travel inspiration to learn some of the best local spots to hook your photo-worthy catch!

Take a virtual tour

This month, take a virtual tour of the Thorn Creek Nature Center in Park Forest. Explore the nature center and walk the Thorn Creek Woods 2.59 miles of natural surface trail, ideal for hiking and running. Take a look online before heading out for your very own hike!
