State Of Guanajuato, Mexico, Offers COVID-19 Testing At Airport, Hotels To Address New U.S. Government Requirements

SILAO, Guanajuato, Jan. 25, 2021 — The Mexican state of Guanajuato is strengthening sanitary and preventive measures in light of the new U. S. executive order to increase sanitary safety, due to COVID-19, in domestic and international travel signed on Jan. 21 by the U.S. President Joseph Biden.

Considering that the U.S. is the main source market for international tourists in Mexico, the Government of Guanajuato, through the Ministry of Tourism, carries out joint actions with the tourism sector, municipal governments and Guanajuato International Airport in order to provide travelers with a safe, efficient and high-quality service.
Section 2 of the U. S. executive order, under “International Travel,” states that, effective Tuesday, Jan. 26, the international traveler “is required to submit a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry into the U.S. (performed up to 72 hours prior to travel).”

Furthermore, travelers “… shall comply with other guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) applicable to international travel, including recommended periods of self-quarantine or self-isolation, after entry into the country.”

In response to current U.S. government requirements, SECTUR Guanajuato informs tourists that they can get their COVID-19 test at Guanajuato International Airport and travel safely to our neighbor country.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) stated that on Monday, Jan. 25, temporary modules were installed, and the cost of the antigen test will be 450 pesos (approx. $22 U.S.) and the PCR test will be 1,450 pesos (approx. $72 U.S.). These two prices will be available only to passengers on international flights.

In addition to these tests, SECTUR has established communication with hoteliers in Guanajuato City, San Miguel de Allende and Leon, the state’s main tourist destinations, so that they also include COVID-19 testing in their services.
Committed to the health of national and international travelers, Guanajuato has maintained constant collaboration since the beginning of the pandemic with destinations and tourism companies in global protocols in order to continue being a safe destination, mitigate the contagion and provide confidence to visitors during their stay in Guanajuato.
Currently, around 3,000 companies in Guanajuato have adopted the “Distintivo Guanajuato Sano,” a certificate that was endorsed by the “Safe Travels” seal of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which considers the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the CDC, and has the support of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Likewise, SECTUR, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Migrants and International Liaison carry out cross-cutting actions that serve as a link with embassies and consulates to meet the needs of international travelers and tourists.

The state of Guanajuato continues to be on guard with various sanitary protocols in as many areas as possible, prioritizing the health and safety of the people of Guanajuato and its tourists.
