I am a freelance multimedia travel and environmental journalist for broadcast, digital and print outlets. Based in Denver, Colorado, I am a broadcast meteorologist and on-camera talent as an expert, host, and reporter on travel, weather, and outdoors. I film, report, produce, host, write, and photograph for live and taped segments, features, and articles. I am a content creator, blogger, speaker/moderator/panelist with focus on travel and outdoors.
I do travel and outdoor adventure segments for broadcast outlets including The Weather Channel, Local Now, and multiple local television stations (NBC, ABC, CBS CW, and Fox affiliates) in top 35 TV markets including Denver and Dallas. I have written and photographed for outlets including AAA National, multiple regional AAA publications, Denver Post, and Matador Network. My specialties are approachable outdoor adventure, solo travel, road trips, exploring a destination in 72 hours or less, cultural experiences, and sustainable tourism.
As a traveler, I've road tripped extensively across the United States. I've visited all 50 states, 2 U.S. territories (Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands), and over 200 National Park Service sites, including 42 national parks. I have also traveled extensively internationally to 47 countries in Asia, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, and South America. Current goal is to visit all 428 U.S. National Park Sites.
My adventure bio includes: trekking to Everest Base Camp (90 miles), skydiving with the Army Golden Knights and to launch a television show; pulling 9Gs twice while flying with the Air Force Thunderbirds; summiting multiple 14,000-foot peaks including 4 in one day; snorkeling between tectonic plates; mushing a dog sled; cracking a Coors on the Coors Peak (14,017’ Wilson Peak in Colorado); solo hiking in remote Wind River Range in Wyoming; exploring numerous national parks in the United States including hiking in 4 national parks and 4 national monuments in one week; surfing, snorkeling, and hiking on cross country adventure trips in Costa Rica and Nicaragua; cave tubing, exploring Mayan ruins, and flying over the Blue Hole on adventure group tour in Guatemala and Belize; hiking in Austria; and wine tasting in Provence, France. I've explored countless destinations from Valle de Guadalupe on the Baja Peninsula in Mexico to Salzburg, Austria, usually in 72 hours or less. I'm a master in exploring destinations in "3 Day Getaways."
As a broadcast meteorologist for 30 years, I was one of the first female chiefs for any local television stations in the United States. In addition to working at local affiliates from Myrtle Beach to Denver, I have also been featured on national outlets like NBC Nightly News and The Weather Channel. I have covered extreme weather from 1000-year flood to blizzards to Hurricane Katrina. I worked in television news in Denver, San Antonio, Knoxville, and Myrtle Beach. In Denver I created and hosted “Explore Colorado” series and 30-minute specials on KDVR and KWGN in featuring over 300 adventure stories in the state. As an environment and climate journalist, I've covered topics like drought, sustainability, why public lands are important, national parks experiences, and eco-tourism.
My live television experience outside of news is extensive. As on-camera talent, I freelance for television news and programming outlets including doing live and taped segments on travel and outdoors for national outlets and in multiple top 35 television markets from Denver to San Antonio. I currently host and produce “Colorado & Me,” a 26-minute interview show for MeTV. In 2016-2017, I helped successfully launch the daily lifestyle show "Houston Life" for KPRC in Houston, Texas, as show's first host.
I'm Lara Croft meets Lucille Ball. When it comes to food, libations, and restaurants, I'm Paula Dean meets Anthony Bourdain...if only I could cook like either one! I'm definitely more of an eater than chef, but always willing to step into the kitchen. I'm the no makeup outdoorsy girl meets the perfectly coiffed television personality. I'm a fan of roughing it, but also love basking in 5-star luxury. I enjoy sharing my travels and adventures across multiple social media platforms.
