His work was selected for the 2020 edition of The Best American Travel Writing and his award-winning memoir, The Voluntourist, tells the story of his volunteer work in New Orleans, Costa Rica, China, Ecuador, Palestine, and Kenya. Ken is the former travel editor and executive editor of AARP The Magazine and writes frequently for the magazine and AARP.org. His work has won gold in the SATW Lowell Thomas awards and the NATJA awards. He has made 100+ appearances on TV and radio, including NBC's Today show, CBS This Morning, CBS's The Early Show, and National Geographic Weekend.
